Choosing between a partial vs full food truck wrap, or simple vinyl lettering, comes down to budget, the condition of the truck’s paint and how hard the truck needs to sell. Vinyl lettering (AED 800 to 2,000) suits a truck that already looks good and only needs a name, logo and menu. A partial wrap (AED 1,500 to 4,500) gives a strong food truck wrap Dubai customers will remember without covering every panel. A full wrap (AED 3,000 to 15,000 depending on size) turns the whole truck into the sign, and it is the only option that hides tired paint.

We brand food vans, concession trailers and Airstreams at our Al Quoz workshop, and this question comes up in almost every first call. Here is how we answer it, with real trucks from our own projects as examples.

All three options can use the same premium cast vinyl. At our workshop that means 3M or Avery Dennison film with UV laminate on printed graphics, which lasts three to five years in Dubai conditions (Pitstop Arabia 2026). So the choice is about coverage and look, not about quality.

Pro Tip: Stand across the road from your truck with the hatch open and the awning down. Whatever you can still see from there is where your branding budget should go first.

Vinyl Lettering: The Lowest-Cost Way to Brand a Food Truck

Vinyl lettering is text and simple graphics cut from single-colour film and applied straight onto the truck’s paint. It covers the essentials: your brand name, logo, what you sell, your phone number and your Instagram handle.

When lettering is the right choice

Where lettering falls short

Lettering cannot do photography, gradients or illustrations. It also does nothing for a truck with faded, scratched or patched paint. Every mark on the body stays visible, and your new logo sits right next to it.

Lettering on its own also needs RTA approval. Dubai’s rules have no small-sticker exemption, so even a single logo on a commercial vehicle needs a permit (Printzone Dubai 2026). At least 50 percent of the text must be in Arabic, and the Arabic name must match your trade licence exactly (Printajo 2026). Plan your lettering as a bilingual layout from the start, not as an English design with Arabic added at the end.

Pro Tip: Before cutting any vinyl, print your brand name at full size, tape it to the truck and read it from across the road. If you have to squint, make it bigger.

Partial Wrap: Strong Branding Without Covering Every Panel

A partial wrap uses printed vinyl on selected panels and lets the truck’s base colour do the rest of the work. On a food truck, that usually means the serving side, the rear, or a graphic band across the body. It sits between lettering and a full wrap in cost, and for many owners it is the best value of the three.

How a partial wrap works on a real trailer

The Roman Around trailer is a good example. The body is white, and we applied printed illustrations to it: a chariot scene and a bright yellow disc on the side, and a hand-drawn portrait on the rear. The white paint becomes part of the design, so the trailer looks fully branded without paying for film on every panel.

When a partial wrap is the right choice

The mistake we see most with partial wraps

Owners sometimes pick a partial wrap to save money on a truck whose paint is already failing. The wrapped panels look new, and the exposed panels look worse by comparison. If your truck has faded paint, rust spots or filler repairs, a partial wrap puts a spotlight on them. In that case, either fix the paint first or go full.

Pro Tip: Ask for your partial wrap design on a template of your exact vehicle, with the hatch, awning, vents and gas locker marked. A design that looks great flat can lose your logo behind an open hatch.

Full Wrap: The Whole Truck Becomes Your Sign

A full wrap covers every painted panel of the truck or trailer. Glass, rubber seals, stainless steel and unpainted trim stay uncovered. This is the option for brands that want the truck itself to be the attraction, at a beach, a festival or a busy parking spot.

What a full wrap looks like on a food trailer

The Patchouli trailer was covered edge to edge in a soft pink stripe pattern, with the logo, the Arabic name and the social handle placed on top. From any angle, the trailer reads as one brand. Nobody walking past sees a plain panel or a mismatched colour.

What to plan for with a full wrap

A full wrap costs more and takes longer. A compact food van takes one to two days to install, while box trucks and Airstreams can take up to five (Marhaba Advertising project data 2026). The RTA permit fee is also higher, at about AED 1,000 a year for a full-wrap van compared with AED 250 to 500 for partial branding (Printajo 2026).

Pro Tip: If you pick a full wrap, choose a design with a solid background colour in the areas around the hatch and hinges. A clean colour edge there is easier to maintain than a detailed pattern.

Partial vs Full Food Truck Wrap: How to Choose

Your situationOur usual recommendation

Good paint in a neutral colour, brand with full-colour artworkPartial wrap on the serving side and rear

In our experience, most first-time owners start with a partial wrap. It gives them a strong serving side at a price that leaves money for equipment and licensing. Established brands and event trucks almost always go full.

Food Truck Details That Affect the Decision

A food truck is not a delivery van, and these details change how each option performs. Planning for them is a big part of good food truck graphics Dubai customers actually notice:

Can You Start Small and Upgrade Later?

Yes, and it is a sensible plan for a new business. Lettering can be removed and replaced with a partial wrap. A partial wrap can be extended into a full wrap with the same design, as long as the artwork was built with the full truck in mind from the start.

Tell your wrap supplier at the design stage if you plan to upgrade. That way, the first phase is designed as part of the full layout, and nothing needs to be thrown away later. Each design change also needs an updated RTA approval, which currently costs AED 100 per vehicle (Printajo 2026).

الأسئلة الشائعة

What is the difference between a partial and full food truck wrap?

A full wrap covers every painted panel of the truck. A partial wrap covers selected panels, usually the serving side, rear or a band across the body, and uses the truck’s own paint as part of the design. A partial wrap costs less but only works well when the uncovered paint is in good condition.

Is a partial wrap cheaper than a full wrap?

Yes. On a compact food van in Dubai, a partial wrap costs AED 1,500 to 3,000 and a full wrap costs AED 3,000 to 5,500. The RTA permit is also lower for partial branding, at AED 250 to 500 a year compared with about AED 1,000 for a full-wrap van.

Is vinyl lettering enough for a food truck?

It can be, if the truck’s paint is clean and in a colour that suits your brand. Lettering covers your name, logo, menu and contact details from AED 800. It cannot show photos or illustrations, and it will not hide faded or damaged paint.

Do I need an RTA permit for vinyl lettering only?

Yes. Dubai has no small-sticker exemption for branded commercial vehicles. Even a single logo needs approval, and at least half of the text must be in Arabic, with the Arabic name matching your trade licence. Partial branding permits cost AED 250 to 500 a year.

Does a full wrap damage the paint on a food truck?

Not when it is premium cast vinyl removed by a professional. Cast film protects the paint from sun while it is on, and it comes off cleanly at the end of its life. Cheap calendered film is the problem, because it can bond to paint and pull it off during removal.

Which option lasts longest in Dubai heat?

All three last about the same when they use the same premium cast vinyl, around three to five years with UV laminate on printed graphics. The difference is coverage and look, not lifespan. Parking in shade and hand washing help any of them last longer.
