Promotional Giveaways in Dubai: Branded Items People Take, Keep and Actually Use
Walk out of any big exhibition at Dubai World Trade Centre and look at the bins near the exit. They are full of flimsy bags, pens that never wrote, flyers and keychains nobody wanted. Each of those items cost a brand money, carried a logo, and lasted about as long as the walk to the car park. Now think about the branded bottle you still carry, or the tote bag you use for groceries. Same budget category, completely different result. The difference is not the logo; it is whether the item was worth keeping.
Marhaba Advertising supplies promotional giveaways Dubai brands hand out at exhibitions, conferences, activations, roadshows, community events and campaigns, branded in bulk and delivered ready to distribute. This page sits under our full corporate gifts Dubai range and focuses on high-quantity, low-cost items with a single logo. For personalised gifts with names and engraving, see our custom gifts page, and for short runs of printed t-shirts, mugs and tote bags, see print on demand. As a signage company in Dubai that also builds stands, booths and event branding, we plan giveaways as part of the whole activation, not as an afterthought.
The Research
What Makes a Promotional Giveaway Worth Keeping in Dubai
Research from PPAI, the promotional products industry association, surveyed 5,674 end users in the US and Canada in 2021 and found that 75.4% kept a promotional product because it was useful, far ahead of any other reason. Reminding them of an event (38.3%), being fun (34.8%) and attractive design (34.1%) followed. The same research found that 48.7% of respondents had kept promotional items for more than five years.

The lesson is simple and applies just as much in Dubai: usefulness beats novelty. A giveaway earns its cost every time it is used, and an unused one earns nothing.
ASI, another industry body, makes the same point with numbers. Its 2026 Ad Impressions Study calculates impressions by multiplying how long people keep an item by how often they use it and how many people see it in use. On that basis, the study notes that fleece jackets and sweatshirts reach less than half a cent per impression despite their higher upfront cost, because they are kept and seen for so long. A cheap item that is thrown away immediately has a terrible cost per impression, however low its unit price.

Rules
Dubai's Single-Use Plastic Ban and What It Means for Giveaways
This is the most important change to giveaway planning in Dubai in recent years, and many brands have not caught up with it.
Under Dubai Executive Council Resolution No. 124 of 2023, Dubai Municipality has phased in a ban on single-use products, according to the municipality's announcement in December 2025:
- 1 January 2024
Single-use plastic bags.
- 1 June 2024
All single-use bags.
- 1 January 2025
Styrofoam cups, plastic straws, cotton swabs, table covers, food containers and stirrers.
- 1 January 2026
Single-use plastic plates, plastic cutlery including chopsticks, and plastic beverage cups and their lids.
Reusable tote bagsWhat this means for promotional giveaways:
Giveaway bags must be reusable
Thin single-use carrier bags for collecting samples and brochures at a stand belong to the past. Reusable cotton, jute, canvas or non-woven tote bags are the practical choice, and they double as a long-life giveaway.
Sampling stands need alternatives
Plastic cups, lids, straws and stirrers for drink sampling fall under the ban; reusable or compliant alternatives are needed.
Reusable items look better anyway
Branded reusable bottles, tumblers and cutlery sets fit the direction of travel and are kept far longer than disposable items.
Check the official guide
Dubai Municipality has published an awareness guide for affected entities; the list above summarises the announcement, so check the guide for exact definitions and any exemptions before ordering anything plastic.
Budget Levels
Giveaway Items by Budget Level for Dubai Campaigns
These groupings help match item choice to budget and audience. Exact pricing depends on quantity, branding method and the specific product, so they are shown as relative levels rather than fixed prices.
Entry levelLevel 1
Entry Level: High Volume, Low Cost
For large public events, mall activations and mass distribution where thousands of items go out: branded pens, lanyards, keychains, stickers, badges, wristbands, notepads, phone stands and bookmarks. Branded pens are still the most common promotional product: PPAI's research found that 72.8% of respondents had received writing instruments. Choose versions that work well, because a pen that fails reflects on the brand.
Mid levelLevel 2
Mid Level: Useful Everyday Items
For exhibitions, conferences, B2B events and customer events: reusable tote bags, branded water bottles, caps, umbrellas for sun, A5 notebooks, cable organisers, charging cables, mouse pads and lunch boxes. These are the items most likely to be kept and used in public, which is where they earn their impressions.
Upper levelLevel 3
Upper Level: Premium Giveaways
For VIP visitors to a stand, speaker packs, lead-qualified prospects and key partners: insulated tumblers, power banks, wireless chargers, quality notebooks with pens, hoodies and backpacks. At this level, many brands move into personalised items, which our custom gifts page covers.
A useful approach at exhibitions is tiered giving: an entry-level item for everyone who stops, a mid-level item for those who have a real conversation, and a premium item for qualified leads. It keeps costs under control and rewards the visitors who matter most.
By Event
Event Giveaways: Exhibitions, Conferences and Activations in Dubai
Exhibition giveawaysExhibition Giveaways
Exhibition giveaways have to do two jobs at once: draw people to the stand and remind them of you after the show. Items that are useful during the show itself, such as a bottle for the long day on the floor, a charging cable or a sturdy bag for collecting brochures, get picked up and used immediately. Dubai's exhibition calendar is busy, with Dubai World Trade Centre alone hosting 401 events in 2025 according to the Government of Dubai Media Office, so standing out among dozens of stands matters. Our exhibition stand Dubai page covers the stand itself, and a branded promotion counter makes giveaways part of the stand design.
Delegate packsConference and Delegate Packs
Conference giveaways usually start with a pack for every delegate at registration: a bag or folder, a notebook and pen, a lanyard and badge holder, the agenda and sometimes a bottle. Assembling and packing hundreds of identical packs takes time, so we can deliver them packed and ready for the registration desk. For the conference branding itself, see our events and activations Dubai hub.
Mall activationsMall Activations, Sampling and Roadshows
At activations and roadshows, giveaways reward interaction: complete a demo, try a sample, register for an offer, take a photo. Choose items that are small enough to carry around a mall and useful enough to keep. Our BTL activations page explains how these campaigns are planned and measured.
Community eventsCommunity, School and Sports Events
Family days, school events, charity runs and community festivals suit caps, bottles, tote bags, sun-protection items and children's items. For outdoor events in Dubai's heat, cooling towels, caps and bottles are genuinely welcome.
Permits
Giveaways in Promotions: The DET Permit Point in Dubai
Not every giveaway needs a permit, but some do, and it catches brands out.
A giveaway handed out freely at an exhibition stand or conference, with no purchase or competition involved, is part of normal marketing. But when a giveaway forms part of a consumer promotion advertised to the public, such as a gift with purchase, a free item for registering in a mall, or a prize draw, Noble Core Ventures' 2026 guide to promotion permits says Dubai-licensed businesses generally need a promotion permit from the Department of Economy and Tourism, recommending at least 30 days of lead time for simple campaigns and 45 to 60 days for mall activations.
What that means for planning:
Know which kind of giveaway you are running
Free handouts and advertised promotions follow different rules.
Order once the permit is approved
If giveaway packaging or signage mentions the offer, dates or terms, produce it only once those are confirmed.
Keep the venue in the loop
Malls and exhibition organisers also have rules about what can be distributed and how.
Our BTL activations page explains the permit process for promotions in more detail, and we coordinate approvals as part of activation projects.
Quantities
How Many Giveaways to Order for a Dubai Event
Ordering too few means empty-handed visitors on day two; ordering too many means boxes of leftovers. A simple planning method helps.
- 1. Start with stand footfallStart with expected footfall at your stand or activation, not total event attendance. Not everyone at a show visits every stand.
- 2. Estimate the take-upEstimate the share of visitors who will take each item. Entry-level items are taken by most people who stop; premium items go only to qualified contacts.
- 3. Add a bufferAdd a buffer for extra days, damage and VIP requests.
Illustrative example only
Illustrative example only: if you expect 1,500 visitors to stop at your stand over three days and plan to give an entry-level item to around 80% of them, that is 1,200 items; a 10% buffer brings the order to about 1,320. If 10% of visitors are qualified leads receiving a premium item, that is 150 items, plus a small buffer.
Leftovers are not wasted if the items are not dated. Neutral, undated giveaways can be stored and used at the next event, which is another reason to keep dates and event names off most items.
Branding
Branding Giveaways That Get Used in Public in Dubai
The way an item is branded decides whether people carry it in public or leave it at home.
- 01
Keep the logo proportionate
A neat logo on a quality bottle gets carried; a logo covering the entire surface is often left in a cupboard.
- 02
Choose the right method for volume
Screen printing and pad printing suit large quantities with one or two colours; full-colour printing suits complex artwork; engraving suits metal drinkware. Our custom gifts page explains methods by material in more detail.
- 03
Use brand colours on the item, not just the logo
A tote bag or cap in your brand colour is recognisable from across a room.
- 04
Add a reason to connect
A short URL, QR code or social handle on items such as notebooks and bags gives recipients a way to find you later.
- 05
Keep it undated
Unless the item is a keepsake for a specific event, leaving off dates lets you reuse stock.
- 06
Match the event branding
Giveaways that match the stand, backdrop and signage make the whole presence look planned. Our graphics printing and large format printing teams produce the event print to match.
Sustainable Choices
Eco-Friendly Promotional Giveaways for Dubai Brands
With single-use bans in force and many companies working towards sustainability goals, eco-friendly giveaways are now a practical default rather than a niche.
- ReuseReusable over disposableBottles, tumblers, tote bags and cutlery sets that replace single-use items.
- MaterialBetter materialsRecycled plastic bottles turned into bags, bamboo and wheat-straw accessories, organic cotton, recycled paper notebooks and seed paper.
- FewerFewer, better itemsGiving one useful item to the right person often beats handing out several items to everyone.
- PackPlastic-free packagingPaper sleeves and cardboard boxes instead of plastic wrapping where possible.
- ClaimsHonest claimsIf an item is described as recycled or sustainable, the supplier's material details should support it.
Our corporate gifts hub has a planned guide on eco-friendly corporate gifts Dubai for larger gifting programmes.
Eco-friendly giveawaysWhat Goes Wrong
Promotional Giveaway Mistakes We See at Dubai Events
Cheap items that fail
A pen that does not write or a bag that tears damages the brand that gave it.
Single-use plastic
Thin carrier bags and disposable cups now fall under Dubai's ban, and they look out of date even where they are allowed.
Dates on everything
Printing the event date on giveaways makes leftovers useless.
One item for everyone
Giving the same premium item to every passer-by wastes budget that should go to qualified leads.
Too few on day one
Running out early at a multi-day exhibition leaves the stand empty-handed when traffic is often highest.
Ignoring the venue rules
Some malls and venues restrict what can be distributed, including food items and certain materials.
Late ordering
Branded items need artwork approval, production and delivery; leaving it to the week before an event limits choice.
Pricing
How Promotional Giveaway Pricing Works in Dubai
Promotional giveaways Dubai pricing is driven mostly by quantity and branding.
- Item and qualityA basic pen and a premium metal pen are very different prices, as are a non-woven bag and a heavy canvas tote.
- QuantityUnit prices fall as quantities rise, because set-up costs are shared across more pieces.
- Branding method and coloursOne-colour screen or pad printing is usually the most economical; full-colour printing, engraving and embroidery cost more per piece.
- Number of print positionsA logo on one side costs less than branding on several sides.
- PackingLoose bulk delivery versus assembled delegate packs or individually bagged items.
- TimingRush orders before peak event season can limit options.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions: Promotional Giveaways in Dubai
Useful items people keep: reusable water bottles and tumblers, tote bags, notebooks and pens, charging cables and power banks, caps and lanyards. Industry research from PPAI found that 75.4% of people keep promotional items because they are useful, so usefulness should drive the choice.
Single-use bags have been banned in Dubai since 1 June 2024 under the municipality's phased ban, so giveaway bags should be reusable, such as cotton, jute, canvas or non-woven totes. Check Dubai Municipality's guide for exact definitions before ordering.
Free handouts at a stand or conference generally do not. But giveaways that form part of an advertised consumer promotion, such as a gift with purchase or a prize draw, generally need a DET promotion permit, according to a 2026 industry guide. Venues may also have their own rules.
Base it on expected stand visitors, not total attendance. Estimate how many will take each item, give entry-level items widely and premium items only to qualified leads, and add a buffer of around 10% for extra demand and damage.
It is the cost of an item divided by the number of times people see it while it is being used. ASI's 2026 study calculates impressions from how long items are kept, how often they are used and how many people see them, which is why useful, long-lasting items often deliver the lowest cost per impression.
Yes. We can assemble delegate packs with a bag or folder, notebook, pen, lanyard, bottle and printed agenda, packed and delivered ready for the registration desk.
One-colour screen printing or pad printing is usually the most economical for large quantities. Full-colour printing, engraving and embroidery cost more per piece but suit premium items and complex logos.
Usually not. Undated items can be reused at future events if any are left over. Keep dates and event names for keepsakes made specifically to commemorate an occasion.
Yes. Options include reusable bottles and tumblers, cotton and jute bags, bamboo and wheat-straw accessories, recycled paper notebooks and seed paper, with plastic-free packaging where possible.
Giveaways are low-cost items made in high quantities for wide distribution, usually with one logo. Corporate gifts are higher-value items for specific clients, employees and partners, often in gift sets or personalised. Our corporate gifts hub covers those.
