Warehouse Signage in Dubai: Industrial Signs That Keep Forklifts, Trucks and People Moving Safely

A truck driver arrives at your gate at 5am with a container booked into dock 7. He cannot find your unit because the building number is a faded sticker. When he does, the dock numbers are painted on the doors, so they disappear every time a door rolls up. Inside, a new picker spends twenty minutes looking for aisle 14 because the aisle signs are at knee height behind pallets. None of this is dramatic, but it costs money every day, and in a busy warehouse it is how accidents start.

Marhaba Advertising is a signage company in Dubai working from its own workshop in Al Quoz Industrial Area 4, surrounded by the warehouses and workshops it builds signs for. This page sits under our full industry signage Dubai range and covers warehouse signage Dubai logistics, distribution and manufacturing sites use: building identification signs, gate and yard directions, dock door numbers, aisle and rack location signs, rack load notices printed from your racking supplier's data, floor marking, workplace safety signs designed to the Dubai Municipality technical guideline, office and reception branding, and branded fencing and fleets. Our wayfinding signage and outdoor signage teams handle the full site, inside and out.

Why It Matters

Why Warehouse Signage in Dubai Is an Operations Tool, Not Decoration

In a shop, signs sell. In a warehouse, signs move things. Every sign on an industrial site answers a question someone would otherwise have to ask: where do I unload, which aisle, how much can this rack hold, where do pedestrians walk, what PPE do I need here. When signs answer those questions instantly, trucks turn around faster, new staff get productive sooner and fewer people stand in places they should not be.

27%Share of requirements above 100,000 sq ft, as demand shifts to larger facilities
AED 90Al Quoz warehouse rent per square foot in the same report

Dubai's warehouse market makes that more important every year. Knight Frank reported 12.3 million square feet of new industrial and logistics requirements in Dubai in the first half of 2026, up from 11.5 million square feet a year earlier, with demand shifting towards larger facilities: requirements above 100,000 square feet rose to 27% of the total. Bigger buildings mean longer aisles, more docks, more staff and more visitors, all of which need clearer signs.

Space is also expensive. Knight Frank put Al Quoz warehouse rents at AED 90 per square foot in the same report. When every square metre is paying rent, a few hundred dirhams of clear industrial signage that saves time on every shift is one of the cheapest efficiency improvements a site can make.

Zone 1: Outside

Gate, Yard and Building Identification Signs for Dubai Warehouses

Building and Unit Identification

Industrial areas across Dubai are full of near-identical units. A clear building identification sign with your company name, logo and unit or plot number, mounted high on the facade and illuminated or reflective for night deliveries, solves the most common complaint from drivers: they cannot find you.

For larger buildings, illuminated letters in 3D signage or deep channel letters on an ACP cladding band give a corporate look, while a flex face signage lightbox covers a wide frontage on a tighter budget. Repeat the unit number at the gate and on the side of the building drivers approach from, not just the front.

Company name letters for building identification

Company name and unit number, high on the facade and repeated where drivers approach.

Gatehouse, Visitor and Delivery Directions

At the gate, separate signs for "Deliveries", "Visitors" and "Staff Parking" stop trucks queuing in the visitor lane and visitors driving into the yard. A gatehouse sign with site rules (speed limit, PPE, reporting to security) gives every arrival the same briefing. Directional signs to reception and to the dock area should be visible from the driver's seat, which is higher in a truck than in a car (see the section on two eye heights, below).

Yard Traffic and Parking Signs

Yards mix heavy trucks, vans, forklifts and people on foot. Speed limit signs, one-way arrows, stop lines, pedestrian crossing points and designated parking bays for trailers keep traffic predictable. Reflective signs are essential for yards that work through the night, because their faces show up in headlights even where yard lighting is weak.

Zone 2: The Dock

Loading Dock Signage for Dubai Logistics Facilities

Dock Door Numbers

Dock door numbers are the most important signs in a logistics building and the ones most often done badly. Numbers painted or stuck directly on roller shutters disappear when the shutter opens, which is exactly when a driver needs them.

The fix is simple: mount large numbers on the wall above each door frame, on the outside and repeated on the inside, so both the driver and the dock team can read them with the door up. Loading dock signs outside should be large, high-contrast and reflective, and the matching inside number lets warehouse staff stage goods at the right door.

Dock Safety and Driver Instructions

Dock areas need clear instructions for drivers: where to wait, when to reverse, whether to stay in the cab or use a waiting area, wheel chock requirements and dock leveller warnings. Signs at the dock edge warn of the drop, and yellow and black hazard striping on dock edges and bumpers marks obstacles. Driver waiting rooms benefit from simple branded signs with site rules in several languages, because drivers come from many countries.

Numbers above the frame stay readable with the shutter up or down.

Zone 3: Aisles and Racking

Aisle, Rack and Location Signs Inside Dubai Warehouses

Ceiling-hung overhead marker sign

Aisle End Signs and Overhead Markers

Aisle signs should be readable from the main cross-aisle, not only when someone is already standing in the aisle. That means large aisle numbers or letters on the end of each rack run, mounted above typical pallet height so stock does not block them, and often an overhead hanging sign as well. Double-sided overhead markers read from both directions in a cross-aisle. For big multi-zone sites, a proper wayfinding signage plan with zone colours (for example, a different colour per temperature zone or customer area) makes the building much easier to learn.

Durable location label plate

Rack Location Labels and Bay Numbers

Rack labels identify every pick face and pallet position: aisle, bay, level and position. They often carry barcodes or QR codes for warehouse management systems. These labels take a beating from pallets and forklift forks, so they need tough materials: laminated polyester or magnetic labels for flexible layouts, and permanent adhesive labels on fixed racking. High-level positions can use larger labels or reflective labels readable by a scanner from the floor. We print to your WMS label format, so the codes your system generates are the codes on the rack.

Rack Load Notices

Every racking run should carry a load notice. Racking manufacturer AR Racking explains that load warning notices under EN 15635 show the maximum load per beam level and per bay, the heights between levels, the installed system and the supplier's contact details, and that they should be fixed securely to the outer frames in a prominent place, using screws or ties rather than removable fixings such as magnets.

One rule matters more than any design choice

Load capacities must come from your racking manufacturer or a qualified racking inspector, never from a sign company. We produce rack load signs from the data your racking supplier provides, in durable materials sized to your frames, and we reprint them whenever your racking is reconfigured and the supplier issues new figures. We never estimate or copy capacities from another site.

Zone 4: Safety

Safety Signs Under the Dubai Municipality Technical Guideline

Dubai Municipality publishes the Technical Guidelines for Safety Signs at Work (DM-HSD-GU99-SSW2), which set out how workplace safety signs in the emirate should look, where they should go and how they should be maintained. We design warehouse safety signs to this guideline.

Colours, Shapes and Signal Words

The guideline uses the familiar international system: prohibition signs as a red circle with a diagonal line, mandatory signs as a blue circle, warning signs as a yellow triangle, safe condition signs (such as first aid and escape equipment) as green squares or rectangles, and fire safety signs as red squares.

ProhibitionRed circle with a diagonal line
MandatoryBlue circle
WarningYellow triangle
Safe conditionGreen square or rectangle
Fire safetyRed square

It also defines signal words in order of severity:

DANGERFor situations that will result in serious injury or death if not avoided
WARNINGFor situations that could
CAUTIONFor minor or moderate injury
NOTICEFor important non-hazard information
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSFor procedures

In a warehouse that typically means: "No Pedestrians" and "No Smoking" prohibition signs; "Hi-Vis Required" and "Safety Shoes Must Be Worn" mandatory signs; "Forklift Trucks Operating" and "Overhead Loads" warning signs; and first aid, eyewash and assembly point safe condition signs. Forklift signs at aisle entrances and pedestrian walkway signs along marked routes are the ones we produce most.

Text Size and Viewing Distance

The guideline asks for signs to be sized and located so they can be understood from the intended safe viewing distance, with enough reaction time. Its Table 1 gives examples of minimum text height: about 20 mm at 6.1 metres in favourable conditions, rising to about 43 mm in unfavourable conditions. It also states that signal word letters should be at least 50% larger than the capital letters of the hazard text. In a dusty, dimly lit warehouse aisle, assume unfavourable conditions and size up.

~20 mmText at 6.1 metres, favourable conditions
~43 mmText at 6.1 metres, unfavourable conditions
+50%Signal words larger than the hazard text capitals

Languages, Materials and Maintenance

The guideline says text should be understandable to the majority of the current workforce, giving Arabic and English as examples. On many Dubai sites that means adding Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam or other languages your team speaks, or leaning on pictograms that need no translation. On materials, it asks for signs suited to the environment, including temperature, fading and lighting, and mentions reflective or photoluminescent materials for visibility during power failure. It also requires damaged or missing signs to be replaced or repaired immediately, with records kept for inspection.

Fire and exit signs are a separate category

Fire exit, directional exit and evacuation plan signage is a separate category: installation is reserved for UAE Civil Defence approved contractors, according to DMCC's published health and safety guidance. We design all other workplace safety signs to sit consistently around them.

Zone 5: The Floor

The Floor Is Part of the Sign System in a Dubai Warehouse

In most warehouses, the floor carries more safety information than the walls. Forklift drivers watch the floor ahead, pedestrians follow lines, and pallets block wall signs. Good floor marking is the backbone of warehouse wayfinding.

The Dubai Municipality guideline asks for access routes to be marked with a continuous line, preferably yellow or white, and for dangerous locations and obstacles to be marked with yellow and black (or red and white) stripes at an angle of 45 degrees and of roughly equal width. On top of that baseline, these are the practices we recommend.

Floor line markings guiding people through a building

Separate people from forklifts

Painted or taped pedestrian walkways with crossing points at aisle junctions, plus "Pedestrian Walkway" floor signs at each crossing.

Mark storage and staging areas

Rectangles for pallet staging at each dock, keep-clear zones in front of fire equipment, electrical panels and exits, and outlines for parking forklifts and charging areas.

Choose the right method for the floor

Industrial floor tape is fast and easy to change, which suits sites that reconfigure often. Painted lines last longer under heavy forklift traffic. Epoxy floors often have markings built into the coating, so coordinate with your flooring contractor before laying anything on top.

Add floor signs at decision points

Embedded or heavy-duty floor signs with arrows, stop symbols or "Look Both Ways" warnings at blind corners work where wall signs are hidden.

Use colour consistently

Pick a colour convention and keep it across the site, for example yellow for traffic lanes, white for storage locations, red and white for keep-clear zones, and green for walkways. Consistency matters more than the specific choice.

YellowTraffic lanes
WhiteStorage locations
Red and whiteKeep-clear zones
GreenWalkways
Plan the refresh

Floor marking wears, so plan to refresh high-traffic lanes. Faded lines are worse than no lines, because people learn to ignore them.

Sign Heights

Two Eye Heights: Designing for Forklift Seats and Truck Cabs in Dubai

Most signage guidance assumes a person standing on the floor. A warehouse has at least two other viewpoints, and signs designed only for pedestrians fail both.

The truck cab

Drivers sit well above car height and look down at the road ahead. Gate signs, directional signs and dock numbers should be positioned for that view: high enough to clear parked vehicles and low enough not to be hidden by the cab roof as the truck gets close. Dock numbers above the door frame work because the driver sees them in the mirror while reversing.

The forklift seat

Forklift drivers look ahead and up, often through the mast and around a load. Aisle end signs need to sit above the top of a typical loaded pallet but within the driver's natural line of sight, not up in the roof structure where only someone standing in the cross-aisle can see them. Overhead markers should hang at a height where loaded masts will not hit them.

The pedestrian

Walking staff and visitors look at eye level and down at the floor. Safety signs at doors and walkway signs belong here, alongside the floor markings.

Before we finalise sign heights, we look at your actual trucks, forklift models and pallet heights. Ten minutes on site watching a forklift move through an aisle tells us more than any drawing.

What Goes Wrong

Where Warehouse Signs Go Wrong in Dubai Industrial Areas

These are the problems we fix most often on warehouse sites, usually on signs another supplier installed a year or two earlier.

  1. 01

    Signs blocked by stock

Aisle and safety signs mounted at standing height get hidden behind pallets within a week of opening. Mount above maximum stack height or on rack ends.

  2. 02

    Numbers on shutters

Dock numbers painted on roller shutters vanish when the door opens. Mount them above the door frame.

  3. 03

Heat and sun on the yard

External signs facing the afternoon sun fade quickly, and cheap calendered vinyl shrinks and cracks on hot metal cladding. Use UV-stable cast vinyl, printed aluminium or ACP.

  4. 04

    Dust on everything

Industrial dust dulls reflective and illuminated signs. Choose smooth faces that can be wiped clean and include sign cleaning in the site maintenance routine.

  5. 05

    Signs damaged by forklifts

Signs on column faces at fork height get hit. Use column guards, mount signs higher or use flexible materials that survive a knock.

  6. 06

    Outdated rack load notices

Racking gets reconfigured but the old load notice stays. Every reconfiguration should come with new figures from the racking supplier and new notices.

  7. 07

    English-only safety signs

On a multinational workforce, an English-only sign is not understood by everyone. Use pictograms and the languages your team actually reads.

  8. 08

    Missing records

The DM guideline expects damaged or missing signs to be replaced immediately and records to be kept. A simple sign register with photos makes inspections easier.

Beyond Safety

Industrial Branding: Offices, Fences and Fleets in Dubai

A warehouse is also a business that clients visit and drivers see on the road every day. Industrial branding extends the signage beyond safety.

Reception logo wall in an office

Offices and reception

Warehouse offices and client meeting rooms benefit from proper office signage Dubai, a reception logo wall, wall graphics in corridors and office privacy frosting on glass partitions overlooking the warehouse floor. Our wider indoor signage range covers the rest.

Branded site hoarding in Dubai

Fences and site perimeters

Branded construction site fencing, PVC fencing and fencing sheets secure yards and new developments while carrying the company name. Sites under construction can use hoarding graphics to announce a new facility.

Fleets

Trucks, vans and delivery bikes are moving signs. See our fleet branding, truck wrap Dubai, van branding Dubai and delivery bike box branding pages, and the vehicle branding hub for everything else on wheels.

Roll-up banner display

Site inductions and safety campaigns

Roll-up banners and printed safety campaign posters from our large format printing service work well for inductions, toolbox talks and seasonal heat-stress campaigns.

For manufacturing sites, see our planned factory signage Dubai page, and for courier and distribution businesses, our planned logistics company signage Dubai page. Garages and service centres inside industrial units are covered on our automotive signage Dubai page.

Budgeting

Warehouse Signage Costs in Dubai for 2026

Warehouse signage Dubai projects are priced differently from shopfront jobs. A single facade sign is a one-off, while a warehouse fit-out may involve hundreds of aisle signs, rack labels and safety signs, so quantity and standardisation drive the price.

Permits for exterior signs

Ground floor shop signage (DDA)AED 500 / year
Wall-mounted hoarding, building wrap, rooftop sign (DDA)AED 5,000 / year
Mainland DM permit (indicative)AED 500 to 2,500

The Dubai Development Authority's published fees apply in DDA-managed communities. For mainland premises, Noble Core Ventures' July 2026 signboard permit guide gives an indicative Dubai Municipality permit range of AED 500 to AED 2,500 depending on sign type and size. Interior safety signs, rack labels and floor markings are not advertising signs and do not need advertising permits, though building management may have its own rules for exterior work.

Production

AED 15,000 to 80,000

The same 2026 guide estimates AED 15,000 to AED 80,000 to fabricate and install a decent illuminated fascia, as an indicative market range. Warehouse building identification signs often sit in a similar band, while interior work is priced per sign or per label and falls sharply in unit cost at volume.

What moves a warehouse signage quote

  • CountNumber of docks, aisles, rack bays and pick positions.
  • Sign sizesSign sizes, which viewing distance and the DM guideline decide.
  • MaterialsReflective, photoluminescent, impact-resistant or standard.
  • LanguagesNumber of languages on safety signs.
  • Floor markingFloor marking area and method (tape or paint).
  • AccessWorking at height in a live warehouse, night or weekend installation.
  • Exterior and brandingExterior identification signs, fencing and fleet graphics.
Phase it by zone

We survey the site, then quote by zone so you can phase the work: safety and dock signs first, then aisles and labels, then branding. Send a floor plan or photos to +971 52 953 6720 on WhatsApp, or use our contact us page.

Where You Operate

Free Zone, Mainland and Industrial Area Rules for Dubai Warehouse Signs

Where your warehouse sits changes who approves its exterior signs.

Mainland industrial areasAl Quoz, Al Qusais, Ras Al Khor

DET governs trade-name signage and Dubai Municipality issues the advertising permit, with the DET rule of one trade name per storefront applying to the main facade sign.

Free zonesJebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai South, Dubai Industrial City

The relevant free zone authority sets its own signage approvals and design rules. Our Mena Jebel Ali page explains how signage works in that area, where Trakhees rather than Dubai Municipality is the usual authority. Knight Frank's 2026 report recorded the fastest rental growth in Dubai South, up 22% year on year, and 16% growth in Dubai Industrial City, so more operators are moving into these zones.

Multi-tenant warehouse parks

The park owner usually controls gate signs, directory boards and facade sign positions. Ask for the tenant signage guidelines before designing your building sign.

Inside the building

Safety signs follow the Dubai Municipality technical guideline wherever you are, and fire and life-safety signs follow Dubai Civil Defence rules.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: Warehouse Signage in Dubai

It depends on your hazards, but most warehouses need prohibition signs such as "No Pedestrians", mandatory PPE signs, forklift and overhead load warnings, first aid and assembly point signs, rack load notices and marked walkways. Dubai Municipality's technical guideline on safety signs at work sets the design rules, and fire exit signs come from a Civil Defence approved contractor.

The Dubai Municipality guideline uses red circles with a diagonal line for prohibition, blue circles for mandatory actions, yellow triangles for warnings, green squares or rectangles for safe conditions and red squares for fire safety equipment, with signal words from DANGER down to NOTICE.

Size it for the viewing distance and conditions. The DM guideline's examples give about 20 mm text at 6.1 metres in favourable conditions and about 43 mm in unfavourable conditions, with signal words at least 50% larger than the hazard text. Dusty, dim warehouses should be treated as unfavourable.

The DM guideline says text should be understandable to the majority of the workforce, giving Arabic and English as examples. Many Dubai warehouses add other languages their staff read, or rely on pictograms. We produce multilingual safety signs in-house.

Yes, using the load data your racking manufacturer or inspector provides. Notices typically show maximum load per beam level and per bay, level heights and supplier details, fixed securely to the rack ends. We never estimate capacities, and we reprint notices whenever the racking is reconfigured.

No. Fire exit, directional exit and evacuation plan signs are installed by UAE Civil Defence approved contractors. We produce and install all other warehouse signs, including safety signs, dock and aisle signs and floor markings, and design them to sit consistently around the fire signage.

Use continuous lines for routes, as the DM guideline recommends, ideally yellow or white, with 45-degree yellow and black stripes on obstacles. Separate pedestrian walkways from forklift lanes, add crossing points at junctions and use floor tape where layouts change often or paint where traffic is heavy.

Exterior sign permits run from around AED 500 a year in DDA communities, with an indicative AED 500 to AED 2,500 mainland range in a 2026 industry guide. Interior safety signs, aisle signs and rack labels are priced per item and drop in unit cost at volume. We quote by zone after a site walk.

Exterior signs in free zones are approved by the free zone authority, such as Trakhees in Jebel Ali areas, rather than Dubai Municipality, and multi-tenant parks often add their own design rules. Interior safety signs still follow the DM guideline and Civil Defence rules for fire signage.

Yes. We produce building identification signs, branded site fencing, office and reception signs, and truck, van and delivery bike graphics in one consistent identity, so your site and your fleet look like the same company wherever clients see them.
