A Citroën H van wrap in Dubai is one of the hardest jobs a vehicle branding workshop can take on, because almost every panel on the van is corrugated. For Venus Ristorante & Beach Club at Caesars Palace Dubai on Bluewaters, we wrapped the body of a vintage H van in a violet-to-gold gradient with classical line art, and left the blue cab and roof in paint. The result is a Food Truck Branding Dubai project that works as a service van and as a photo spot on the sand.

This case study walks through what the van needed, how we handled the ribbed panels, and what other owners of vintage vans can learn from it before booking their own wrap.

Why the Citroën H Van Is So Popular for Food Trucks

Citroën built the H van for 34 years, from 1947 to 1981, and produced 473,289 of them in France and Belgium (Wikipedia, Citroën H Van). Surviving vans are now popular as food trucks in cities around the world because of their retro European look.

That look is exactly what a Mediterranean beach club wants. Venus serves Italian-led Mediterranean dishes, and its cabanas are named after Amalfi Coast towns (What’s On 2022). A vintage French van on the sand fits that setting far better than a modern box truck.

The Challenge: Wrapping Corrugated Panels

The H van’s body is covered in ribs. Citroën used them because they added strength without extra weight and could be made with simple, low-cost press tools, an idea taken from German Junkers aircraft (Wikipedia, Citroën H Van). That is great engineering, but it makes wrapping much harder.

On a flat panel, an installer lays the film down and squeegees it out. On a ribbed panel, the film has to go down into every channel and back up over every ridge without thinning, bridging across the gap or lifting later. If the film bridges a channel, it looks fine on the day and then pops up as soon as the Dubai heat gets to it.

Here is how we approached it:

The rear doors. The bust is split across two doors and lines up when they close, and the lights and reflectors stay clear.

Pro Tip: If your vintage van has ribbed panels, ask your installer to show you a corrugated job they have done before, not just flat vans. The difference in skill shows up in the first summer.

Design Choices That Made the Wrap Work

Keeping the cab in paint

The van’s cab and roof were already painted in a deep blue. Rather than cover them, the wrap starts at the body and leaves the cab as it is. The top of the gradient is a dark violet that sits right next to that blue, so the line between paint and vinyl is hard to spot. It is a good example of how a partial wrap can look like a full one when the colours are chosen around the existing paint.

A gradient that suits sunset trading

The colours move from violet at the top, through magenta, to gold at the base. On a beach in the late afternoon, the van sits against the sea and sky in the same colours. It is the kind of detail that gets a food van into guests’ photos, which is free marketing for the venue.

Classical art for a venue named Venus

A fine line-art pattern of classical faces runs across the whole body. On top of it sit a gold goddess profile on the side, the words “La Bella Vita” in script, and a navy bust on the rear under the VENUS wordmark. It ties the van to the venue’s name and Italian theme without needing a menu or a slogan to explain it.

Pro Tip: On a vintage van, the original badges and grille are part of the appeal. Keep them visible and let the wrap work on the body behind them.

What Vintage Van Owners Can Learn From This Project

  1. Check the panels before you design. Count the ribbed and curved areas. They decide the labour, the price and where text can go.
  2. Design around the paint you keep. If part of the van stays painted, pick wrap colours that blend into it.
  3. Keep small text off the ribs. Put names, phone numbers and slogans on the flattest areas you have.
  4. Plan for fixtures. Serving hatches, AC units, power sockets and hinges all need space. Mark them on the template before the artwork is final.
  5. Fix rust and filler first. Vinyl shows every dent and bubble in old bodywork. Bodywork repairs should come before the wrap, not after.

What Does a Citroën H Van Wrap Cost in Dubai?

Because of the corrugated panels, a full wrap on a Citroën H style van typically costs AED 4,500 to AED 8,000 in Dubai, and it takes two to three days to install. A partial wrap like the Venus van, with the cab left in paint, costs less because less film and labour go into it. The exact price depends on the van’s condition, the coverage and the design.

For a full breakdown across vans, trailers and box trucks, see our food truck wrap cost guide. If your van will be driven on public roads with branding on it, it will also need an RTA advertising permit. Our RTA permit guide for food trucks explains the fees and design rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wrap a Citroën H van with corrugated panels?

Yes. It takes premium cast vinyl and an installer who works the film into every channel and post-heats it so it holds its shape. Calendered or cheap film tends to lift out of the ribs quickly in Dubai heat, so the material matters more on an H van than on a flat-sided van.

How much does it cost to wrap a vintage van in Dubai?

A full wrap on a Citroën H style van typically costs AED 4,500 to AED 8,000, with two to three days of installation. A partial wrap that leaves the cab or roof in paint costs less. The van’s condition, coverage and design complexity set the final price.

Should I paint or wrap a vintage food van?

If you want detailed artwork, gradients or illustrations, a wrap is usually quicker to produce than hand painting, and it can be removed or changed later without a respray. Many owners combine the two: a solid paint colour on the cab and a printed wrap on the body, as on the Venus van.

How long does a wrap on a vintage van last in Dubai?

Premium cast vinyl with UV laminate lasts three to five years in Dubai conditions (Pitstop Arabia 2026). On corrugated panels, careful installation and post-heating matter as much as the film itself, because poorly set film lifts out of the channels first.

Do you wrap food vans for hotels and beach clubs?

Yes. Hotel and beach club vans are often parked in full view of guests, so they need artwork that matches the venue’s look. We plan the design around the van’s shape, the existing paint and the setting, then print and install at our Al Quoz workshop.
