ACP Cladding Dubai: Aluminium Composite Panels for Shopfront Fascias, Building Facades and Signage Backing

ACP, or aluminium composite panel, is the most widely used facade cladding material in the UAE. Every commercial strip in Dubai from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Quoz Industrial Area and Deira has at least one building where the cladding is ACP. The flat, precise surface gives shopfronts a modern, polished appearance. The lightweight construction makes it practical for large-format facade applications where stone or solid aluminium would be structurally impractical. The factory-coated surface resists Dubai's UV exposure and temperature cycling without the ongoing maintenance that painted render or natural stone requires (Diamond Step UAE 2026, Albasira 2026).

The decision that matters most before any ACP project begins is core type. Following tightened UAE Civil Defence regulations and Dubai Municipality building requirements in the wake of high-profile international building fires, PE core ACP is no longer approved for building facade use above the ground floor on most commercial and residential buildings in the UAE. FR core is the minimum requirement for mid-rise commercial buildings. A2 core is required for high-rise, hospitals, airports, and critical public buildings. As a signage company in Dubai with five years of production experience, we supply, cut, fold, and install ACP cladding as part of integrated signage and facade packages from our Al Quoz Industrial Area 4 workshop.

Fire Rating and Compliance

ACP Cladding Dubai: Choosing the Right Core Grade for UAE Buildings

The aluminium skins of an ACP panel look identical regardless of core type. The difference is fire behaviour, legal compliance, and structural approval. Getting the core grade wrong on a UAE facade project leads to permit rejection, mandatory re-cladding, and fire safety liability.

ACP shopfront fascia cladding installed on commercial building Dubai

PE Core ACP Dubai: What It Is and Where It Can Still Be Used

PE core ACP uses a standard polyethylene fill between the two aluminium skins. It is the cheapest ACP core type and the most flammable. When PE core ACP is exposed to fire, the polyethylene burns readily and can propagate flames along a building facade rapidly. Following the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire in London, which involved combustible cladding on a residential high-rise, building authorities worldwide including Dubai Municipality and UAE Civil Defence tightened facade fire safety requirements (Albasira 2026, Diamond Step UAE 2026).

In Dubai and across the UAE, PE core ACP is no longer approved for facade cladding use on commercial or residential buildings above the ground floor. The material remains permitted for interior use, exhibition stands, signage boards where the panel is not mounted on a building exterior, and non-structural applications where fire spread through the building envelope is not a risk (Diamond Step UAE 2026, Smartcon 2026). PE core installed cost: AED 70 to AED 110 per square metre. Any contractor proposing PE core for an exterior facade application on a building with upper floors in the UAE is not complying with current regulations.

Important: PE core ACP is not approved for exterior facade cladding above the ground floor in the UAE. FR or A2 core is the minimum legal requirement for commercial buildings.

FR Core ACP Dubai: The Required Grade for Mid-Rise Facades and Commercial Buildings

FR core ACP uses a mineral-filled compound between the aluminium skins. The mineral filler significantly reduces the rate of flame spread and reduces the combustibility of the core. FR core panels typically achieve a Euroclass B-s1,d0 fire classification, meaning limited combustibility with low smoke output and no flaming droplets (Smartcon 2026, Vision Art Aluminium 2026).

For commercial building facades in Dubai, FR core is the minimum compliant specification for any building above the ground floor. Most shopfront fascia cladding applications, mid-rise commercial buildings, retail units, and industrial unit fascias use FR core ACP as the standard specification. FR core must be accompanied by a fire test certificate from an accredited laboratory confirming the panel's classification. Any contractor who cannot provide fire certification documentation for the FR core panels they are proposing should not be awarded the project (Albasira 2026). FR core ACP installed cost: AED 120 to AED 180 per square metre including aluminium subframe and standard fixing (Diamond Step UAE 2026).

A2 Core ACP Dubai: Non-Combustible Grade for High-Rise and Critical Applications

A2 core ACP uses a mineral fill of more than 90 percent inorganic content, producing a core that is effectively non-combustible. A2 core panels achieve Euroclass A2-s1,d0 classification under EN 13501-1, the highest fire performance class available in a composite panel format (Smartcon 2026). A2 core is specified for high-rise commercial and residential buildings, hospitals, airports, schools, and any building where UAE fire safety regulations or Dubai Municipality permit requirements mandate the highest available fire performance in cladding materials.

A2 core panels are denser and slightly heavier per square metre than FR core, which affects subframe design calculations for large-format facade applications. The material cost is higher, but for any project where fire regulation requires it, A2 core is a non-negotiable specification. A2 core ACP installed cost: AED 160 to AED 280 per square metre (Diamond Step UAE 2026). Documentation required includes fire test certificate, PVDF coating warranty from the coating manufacturer, and subframe design calculations signed by a qualified engineer.

Where ACP Is Used

ACP Cladding Applications Dubai: Shopfronts, Facades, Signage Backing and Feature Walls

ACP is the standard material across four distinct application types in Dubai's commercial signage and construction sectors. Each application uses the same panel material differently.

ACP fascia cladding on retail shopfront Dubai Al Quoz

ACP Shopfront Fascia Cladding Dubai: Creating a Clean Canvas for Branding and Signs

The most common ACP cladding application in Dubai's commercial signage sector is shopfront fascia cladding. The principle is straightforward: instead of mounting channel letters or sign panels directly onto an uneven rendered wall, painted concrete, or an existing inconsistent surface, the full shopfront width above the glazing is first clad in ACP. The ACP creates a flat, smooth, colour-consistent canvas across the entire fascia band. Sign letters, printed graphics, lightboxes, and dimensional elements are then mounted onto the ACP surface.

The result is a cleaner, more professional appearance than signs mounted directly to an uneven wall, because the ACP eliminates the visual variation in the background surface behind the sign. For shop signage Dubai projects where the building's existing facade surface is old render, exposed concrete, or a patchwork of different finishes, an ACP fascia panel is the most cost-effective way to achieve a brand-consistent shopfront without a full building facade renovation.

ACP Signage Backing Panels Dubai: Flat Surface for Channel Letters and LED Signs

In signage production, ACP is used as the flat backing panel for sign installations where individual letters, logos, or graphic elements are mounted in front of a coloured background. The ACP backing panel is cut to the sign face dimensions, powder-coated or applied with vinyl in the brand background colour, and used as the sign surface on which 3D letters or graphic elements are mounted with standoffs.

For LED signage Dubai and 3D signage Dubai projects where channel letters or three-dimensional elements are specified against a coloured background panel, ACP is the correct backing material. It is lighter than solid aluminium sheet at equivalent thickness, does not warp under temperature variation, and provides a factory-smooth surface for the sign letters to read cleanly against.

ACP Building Facade Cladding Dubai: Full Elevation Coverage and Renovation Cladding

Full building facade cladding in ACP is used for new commercial construction and for renovation projects where an existing building facade is being updated without structural changes. In Dubai's industrial and commercial zones, ACP re-cladding is a cost-effective way to modernise an older building front, create a consistent facade appearance across a multi-unit commercial development, or hide surface defects and uneven finishes behind a flat, weather-resistant skin.

For full building elevations, the aluminium subframe is designed by a qualified engineer, fixed to the building structure, and the ACP panels clip into the subframe using a cassette fixing system that allows individual panels to be replaced without disturbing the surrounding installation. See our Dubai signage permit guide for the permit process applicable to building-mounted exterior cladding. For outdoor signage Dubai formats that integrate with ACP facade cladding, see the outdoor signage service page.

ACP Feature Walls and Canopies Dubai: Architectural Detail Applications

ACP is used for entrance canopies, column cladding, feature wall panels, reception area cladding strips, and architectural detail elements in commercial buildings across Dubai. The material's light weight makes it ideal for projecting canopy structures where a heavy material would require disproportionate structural support. Its availability in woodgrain, stone-effect, metallic, and brushed finishes gives designers the visual flexibility of a premium surface material at a cost and weight profile that other materials cannot match.

Column cladding in ACP is standard in shopping centres, hotel lobbies, and corporate office entrance areas. ACP panels are curved around circular column formwork using controlled heating, or applied to square or rectangular columns as flat panel assemblies with mitred corners and sealed joints. For large-format architectural pylon and building fascia signage where ACP forms the structural cladding of the sign body, see our pylon and fascia signage Dubai page.

Surface and Coating

ACP Cladding Finishes Dubai: PVDF, Polyester and Anodised Aluminium for UAE Climate

Coating type determines how long an ACP panel holds its colour and finish under Dubai's UV intensity and temperature cycling. The difference between PVDF and polyester is 15 years of service life in Gulf outdoor conditions.

PVDF-coated ACP panels installed on commercial shopfront Dubai

PVDF-Coated ACP Dubai: The Standard Finish for Gulf Climate Outdoor Applications

PVDF, or polyvinylidene fluoride, is the coating system used on the aluminium skins of all quality ACP panels specified for outdoor use in Dubai. The PVDF binder is a fluoropolymer with exceptional resistance to UV radiation, thermal cycling, and salt air. In Dubai's outdoor environment, where UV index levels exceed 11 for six months of the year and surface temperatures on south-facing facades reach 65 to 70 degrees Celsius, PVDF-coated ACP retains its colour with minimal measurable fade for 20 years or more under manufacturer warranty conditions (Diamond Step UAE 2026, Arona Store 2026).

Polyester-coated ACP uses a standard polyester paint system that performs adequately in interior applications and low-exposure outdoor environments. Under Dubai's UV and heat conditions, polyester coating on an outdoor facade typically shows visible colour shift within five years and chalking of the surface within eight years. Polyester coating is a false economy on any Dubai exterior project. The additional cost of PVDF-grade ACP over polyester-grade pays for itself in the extended replacement cycle.

PVDF-coated ACP is available in any standard RAL colour, as well as metallic, brushed metal, mirror, woodgrain, stone-effect, and custom colour finishes. All ACP used in exterior cladding and signage at our Al Quoz workshop carries PVDF coating.

Polyester-Coated ACP Dubai: Interior and Short-Term Applications

Polyester-coated ACP is the correct specification for interior feature walls, exhibition stands, trade show displays, and temporary or short-term signage applications where the material is not exposed to Dubai's direct sun and weather. The cost difference between polyester and PVDF grade is meaningful on large interior projects where the additional UV resistance of PVDF provides no practical benefit.

For any application where the ACP face could receive direct sun exposure, even intermittently, PVDF coating should be specified. A retail interior feature wall adjacent to a south-facing window that receives afternoon sun is a PVDF application, not polyester, because Dubai's afternoon sun intensity in that scenario produces the same UV degradation as a fully outdoor surface.

Installation Method

ACP Cladding Fixing Systems Dubai: Cassette Frame vs Direct Adhesive Installation

The fixing method is determined by the size of the installation, the building type, and whether the project requires DM permit approval. The two main systems have different structural, maintenance, and cost profiles.

Aluminium subframe cassette fixing system for ACP facade cladding Dubai

Aluminium Subframe and Cassette System for ACP Cladding Dubai

The aluminium subframe and cassette fixing system is the standard installation method for ACP cladding on multi-panel building facades and shopfront applications where the panels span the full width of the elevation. The aluminium subframe is fixed to the wall structure using mechanical anchors. ACP panels are folded and formed into cassettes at the edges, and these cassettes click or screw into the subframe rails.

The cassette system has two practical advantages over direct adhesive fixing. First, individual panels can be replaced without disturbing adjacent panels, which matters when a panel is damaged or when the building owner wants to update one section of the facade. Second, the subframe creates a ventilated cavity behind the ACP skin, which in Dubai's climate reduces the heat load on the panel and allows any water ingress to drain rather than accumulating behind a bonded panel face.

For any facade or shopfront cladding project where the panel covers more than approximately 6 to 8 square metres of continuous wall area, the cassette subframe system is the correct specification. Subframe engineering calculations must be produced by a qualified engineer and submitted as part of the Dubai Municipality permit application for building-mounted external cladding.

Direct Adhesive Fixing for ACP Shopfront and Signage Panels Dubai

Direct adhesive, or wet-fix, bonding applies ACP panels directly to a prepared wall substrate using a structural adhesive without an intermediate subframe. This method is used for small-format shopfront sign backing panels, low-level commercial applications, and any installation where the panel area is small enough that an aluminium subframe would be disproportionate.

For sign backing panels where the ACP is used as the flat face behind mounted letters or graphics, direct adhesive fixing is the standard method. The wall substrate must be clean, dry, structurally sound, and free of loose render before bonding. In Dubai's climate, a high-temperature structural silicone adhesive rated for the thermal cycling range of the application must be used. Standard domestic silicone or polyurethane adhesive fails under the temperature differential between a cooled interior wall and a sun-heated exterior ACP surface in summer conditions.

How We Work

ACP Cladding Process Dubai: From Panel Specification to Installed Facade

Every ACP project at our Al Quoz workshop follows a five-step process from core grade specification through to permit sign-off. Fire certificate documentation is collected and handed over with every exterior installation.

1

Core Grade and Finish Specification

Every ACP project starts with core grade confirmation. We confirm the correct fire rating for the application: PE core for interior-only applications, FR core for any exterior facade above ground floor, A2 core for high-rise or regulated building types. PVDF coating is specified on all outdoor panels as standard. Colour is matched to the brand or architectural specification using the RAL system or a custom colour match.

2

Panel Measurement and Design

Facade dimensions are measured precisely on site. Panel layout is designed to minimise visible joints and align panel edges with natural architectural features such as window frames, doorframes, and facade transitions. For cassette subframe installations, the subframe grid is designed to the panel layout and submitted to the project engineer for structural review where required.

3

CNC Cutting and Panel Forming

ACP panels are CNC-cut to the exact dimensions confirmed in the layout design. Edges are formed using CNC routing and folding to produce the cassette flange for subframe installations, or cut clean for direct adhesive applications. Cutouts for signs, mounting points, drainage slots, and joint sealant channels are machined at this stage before the panels leave the workshop.

4

Subframe Installation and Panel Fixing

The aluminium subframe is fixed to the wall using mechanical anchors at the engineer-specified fixing centres. Level and plumb checks are carried out across the full width of the installation before any panel is fixed. ACP panels are clipped or fixed to the subframe in the confirmed sequence, with joint widths maintained consistent across the elevation. Sealant is applied at panel joints where specified to prevent water and dust ingress.

5

Inspection and Permit Sign-Off

The completed ACP installation is inspected across the full face of the panel for flatness, alignment, joint consistency, and edge finish. For permitted installations, the completed work is photographed for the DM permit record. You receive the installation with fire certification documentation for the panels, PVDF coating warranty documentation, and maintenance guidance for the finished surface.

Common Questions

ACP Cladding Dubai: Common Questions Answered

ACP stands for aluminium composite panel. It consists of two thin aluminium skins, typically 0.3 to 0.5mm each, bonded to a core material. The standard panel thickness for facade and shopfront cladding applications in Dubai is 4mm. The aluminium skins are factory-coated with PVDF or polyester paint in any standard RAL colour or custom finish. The core material determines the fire performance of the panel and governs which applications the panel can legally be used for in the UAE (Diamond Step UAE 2026).

No. PE core ACP is no longer approved for building facade cladding above the ground floor on most commercial and residential buildings in the UAE following tightened UAE Civil Defence and Dubai Municipality fire safety regulations. PE core remains permitted for interior applications, non-facade signage boards, exhibition displays, and other non-structural uses where fire spread through the building envelope is not a risk. For any exterior facade application on a building with upper floors, FR or A2 core ACP is the minimum compliant specification (Diamond Step UAE 2026, Albasira 2026).

FR core uses a mineral-filled compound that reduces flame spread and achieves Euroclass B-s1,d0 fire classification. It is the standard specification for mid-rise commercial building facades in Dubai. A2 core uses a mineral fill of more than 90 percent inorganic content, producing a panel that is effectively non-combustible with Euroclass A2-s1,d0 classification. A2 core is required for high-rise buildings, hospitals, airports, schools, and any application where UAE fire safety regulations mandate the highest available fire performance in cladding (Smartcon 2026, Arona Store 2026).

FR core ACP installed on a shopfront or building facade costs AED 120 to AED 180 per square metre, including panels, aluminium subframe, and installation labour. A2 core installed costs AED 160 to AED 280 per square metre. PE core for interior-only applications costs AED 70 to AED 110 per square metre. Scaffolding and access equipment for upper-floor work are quoted separately. These prices cover PVDF coating as standard on all outdoor panels (Diamond Step UAE 2026, Marhaba Advertising project data 2026).

PVDF-coated ACP is available in any standard RAL colour and in metallic, brushed metal, mirror, woodgrain, stone-effect, and custom colour finishes. PVDF coating is the standard specification for all outdoor ACP applications in Dubai because of its exceptional UV resistance and colour retention over 20 or more years in Gulf climate conditions. Polyester-coated ACP is available for interior applications. Anodised aluminium finish is also available for premium metallic applications (Diamond Step UAE 2026).

PVDF-coated ACP in correct fire-rated grade, properly installed with an aluminium subframe, lasts 20 or more years in Dubai's outdoor climate under manufacturer warranty conditions. The PVDF coating resists UV fading, chalking, and delamination under the thermal and UV load of the Gulf climate. Polyester-coated panels in outdoor Dubai applications typically show visible colour change within five years. PE core panels, regardless of coating, are no longer compliant for outdoor facade use in the UAE (Diamond Step UAE 2026, Arona Store 2026).

Yes. Building-mounted exterior ACP cladding that modifies the external appearance of a commercial building in Dubai requires Dubai Municipality approval before installation. The permit application requires site plans, facade drawings, fire certification documents for the ACP panels specified, and a subframe engineering calculation for cassette-fixed systems. For the full permit process covering which authority applies to your location and what documents are required, see our Dubai signage permit guide.

Cassette fixing uses an aluminium subframe mechanically fixed to the wall, with ACP panels formed into cassettes that clip into the subframe. It is the standard method for larger facade areas, allows individual panel replacement without disturbing adjacent panels, and creates a ventilated cavity behind the panels. Direct adhesive (wet-fix) bonding applies ACP panels directly to the wall substrate without a subframe, used for smaller signage backing panels and low-level shopfront applications where the panel area does not justify a full subframe installation.

At our Al Quoz workshop, we use FR fire-retardant grade ACP panels with PVDF coating from established manufacturers supplying fire-certified panels with full documentation including fire test certificates and PVDF coating warranty documentation from the coating manufacturer. Well-known brands in the UAE market include Alucobond (3A Composites, Swiss origin), Dibond, and Alstrong (UAE-manufactured). We do not use uncertified ACP panels on any exterior project regardless of stated grade.

Our production facility is at Warehouse 1, Al Quoz Industrial Area 4, Al Quoz, Dubai. ACP panel CNC cutting, forming, and preparation all take place at this facility. We install across Dubai, Deira, Sharjah, and the wider UAE. For complete shopfront signage combining ACP fascia cladding with sign letters and branding, see our shop signage Dubai page.
